Building fences

Today I worked on the cement fence with Madeline, a girl who is volunteering there as well. She’s from Missouri and super sweet! She is a few years younger than I am and has been saving up money since she was 12 to come back to Tanzania. Working with cement brought me back to Merida, since we mixed it by hand in the same way. Tanzanian workers take a break around 10am called “chi” where they have bread and tea, and I’m not a fan of either of those things. Their bread and our bread are very different!
Madeline, myself and an older lady named Mary are heading to Zanzibar this afternoon to spend a few days. It is this island off the coast of Africa and supposedly really pretty, so I’m excited to see more than just our little compound.
We just had our first hot shower in the hotel we are staying at! I’ve only been here for a few days, so I can’t imagine how Madeline and Mary felt, after being here for 2 weeks already.
