Why Brave? The Reason Behind the Shirt

Hey everyone! I have been receiving a lot of questions lately as to why I choose to design my shirt the way I did, and there is just so much that went into it, it’s becoming harder and harder to condense everything! I wanted to make it as personal and authentic as I could relating to what I am going through this year and what God has been breathing into my life. So here is my best explanation of the craziness going on in my head!

The word brave is the word that God placed on my heart for 2018, and I thought that it should take a part in a tangable way on the shirt as a reminder to all of us to BE BRAVE. BRAVE is in all caps on the design because that word is not a word that should be used lightly, it is such a powerful word and should be used as such! I was reminded of a quote written on the walls of one of the training centers from my most recent mission. “Live Brave. Dream Bravely. Influence Bravery.” Going into this year, a year of transition and change, God is pushing me to live brave, graduating high school at the age of 16, moving 1,303 miles away from home and stepping out on faith along the way. We are called to live differently, he continuously shows me every day that even in a world of resistance and darkness, there is so much good! Just by one person living brave and proclaiming his name, even when we are afraid of rejection. Afraid. We are afraid of a war that has already been won. Stand brave. Even if it is for the sake of one, God has a plan.

Often times, we cut our dreams too short. We try to make them just close enough that it stays within our comfort zone. Something that we can attain, not by faith in God, but by our own doing. God calls us to dream, and dream big! He is calling us to great places, and who are we if we don’t let him take us there? We must surrender the screaming of our flesh for the whisper of the holy one. Dream brave dreams, “Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid, for the Lord your God is with you” Joshua 1:9.

Now, through living brave and dreaming bravely, we influence bravery. About six months before my mission trip, after a leadership conference, although I was afraid of what the world would think, I took a step in faith and started posting about Jesus on my Instagram. It doesn’t sound like that big of a step in faith, but I can tell you right now that high school girls can be strait brutal. But recently, while I was in Thailand, it was coming to the last three days of our trip and I was starting to feel the sadness of going home. Then, completely out of the blue, I get a message on Instagram from a girl named Sidney. She had been following my Instagram for quite sometime and explained how inspirational my page was, talking about how awesome it was that I was open to post about Jesus freely and how she had been trying to find a friend who would walk along side her in her relationship with Jesus. I was, to say the least, shook. I stood there in awe. God had used a seed I had planted six months before on my Instagram, by simply stepping out and proclaiming his name. Through this, I realized that the next few months were not to be wasted. By me living brave and dreaming bravely, it influenced bravery in her. She reached out, she took a step in faith and messaged a near stranger, and now she has someone to walk along side her and encourage her in this crazy world. God used me. God’s using me. And God’s not going to stop using me. Everyday I get up now, and pray for ways to show his love, influencing bravery in people just like Sidney. Eventhough you may not see it, God wastes nothing. He is greater and he has a plan. God is in the details, he makes things happen that we never could have imagined. He uses each and everyone of us if we allow him to. Break our walls down and let us experience life and life to the full! Now I get to meet with Sidney weekly (sometimes daily) to do life together with the one who created us. Wow, talk about blessed! I love that girl!

I choose to place the mountains in front of the word because it shows the many mountains that are infront of us but the glory that we will see with it. We MUST be brave to climb these mountains though, or we would never even try. I think some people get one look at the mountain infront of them and run the other direction, I did that for a long time, except I just kept running to other mountains that God never placed in front of me in the first place, ops. This year though, I am choosing to climb that mountain that is undeniably huge, and terrifying, and 23 hous away from home. BUT, I know that my God is with me and I will not fall.

Matthew 17:20

This verse is also very close to me for multiple reasons, the verse reads…”You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.” Out of all the reasons, I think you can guess why I love this verse, it takes faith, trust, and some Jesus dust to make things happen, and I want to make things happen. Even with faith small as a mustard seed can we move mountains, so what can we do with a whole jar?
